The services we offer range from audio typing (from tape to print or tape to Braille), to Braille transcription directly from IBM PC compatible computer disks. We can also offer a text-based OCR scanning service. Please note however, that the print quality of any scanned material must be of a reasonable standard, i.e. no handwritten material will be accepted, and we cannot be held responsible for any errors in the Braille transcription of such material, but we will do our utmost to achieve the highest possible level of accuracy. All Brailling is done using computer-based Braille translation software. Please note also that any work undertaken will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Another service we can offer is Brailling directly over the Internet (E-Braille). This involves a customer sending a file attached to a message to the Internet address given above, we then Braille the text directly from the file and send it back hopefully the same day. This of course, speeds up the process, because the Royal Mail is only involved in the returning of the Brailled material, thus cutting out one or two days of the turn-around time.

Who would benefit from these services?

• Any blind individuals who need material Brailled in a hurry.
• Local Councils - perhaps any leaflets or press releases they distribute could be supplied to us on computer disk for Brailling. This could also apply to charities who wish to make their material more accessible to the blind and visually-impaired.
• Schools and Colleges - any blind or visually-impaired students who need course notes typed for tutors, or tutors who need their notes Brailled for students.<
• Restaurants - who may wish to supply their menus in Braille.
• Churches - hymns or Orders of Service sheets could be produced in Braille.

We can now offer installation/training on DOS/Windows software, including the Megadots Braille translation system from Duxbury Systems Window-Eyes and JFW from GW Micro and Freedom Scientificrespectively. For further information on support, training or consultancy, please contact us.

Pricing information for services

Braille production is charged at 10 pounds per hour (we do not charge based on pages per hour), this is inclusive of labour and materials. For additional copies of transcribed material, we ask roughly 50p per copy, depending on the size of the document. Also, we usually charge less than œ10 if the document is one or two pages and is straightforward, i.e. small letters to clients etc. Please feel free to ask for a quote - no job too small!!!

Technical support can be given over the telephone at 10 pounds per hour. If on-site training/technical support is required, this can also be given at 375 pounds per day including travel. Please note: All prices exclude VAT, which must be charged on training and technical support, but is not charged on Braille production.
